Surfstick
Wer heutzutage mobil surfen möchte und das unabhängig von WLAN Hotspots, der ist auf die Nutzung eines Surfsticks angewiesen. Mit einem UMTS Surfstick sind Übertragungsraten von bis zu 7,2 Mbit/s im Downstream möglich. Diese Geschwindigkeit wird über das Datenübertragungsverfahren HSDPA erreicht. Mittlerweile wird sogar schon an HSDPA+ gearbeitet, womit bis zu 28Mbit/s im Download möglich sind. Sowohl HSDPA als auch HSDPA+ sind bisher jedoch nur in Ballungsgebieten verfügbar. Außerhalb dieser müssen sich Nutzer eines Surfsticks mit UMTS, EDGE oder GPRS begnügen. Je nach Region und Netzanbieter bestehen ebenfalls Unterschiede in der UMTS-Netzabdeckung, die für das schnelle Surfen im Internet nötig ist. So sind das D1-Netz sowie das D2-Netz am besten ausgebaut gefolgt vom O2-Netz und dem E-Plus Netz.
Tipp: Wer seinen Surfstick unabhängig von einem Anbieter nutzen möchte, der sollte beim Kauf darauf achten, dass er einen Surfstick ohne Simlock erwirbt. Ansonsten ist der Stick für einen bestimmten Zeitraum Anbieter gebunden und kann nur gegen eine Gebühr vom Simlock befreit werden.
